More Jamaica

Keiko & ZACL said how they liked the Jamaican bars and trees illustrated in my last, so here are more:

  1. Lovely pics….nice to see these pics of K! and what a huge, amazing mango tree sheltering the hotel!

I'm trying to pick a few spots for great trees that will – if not cut by those who come after me – live for a couple hundred years. It's a difficult challenge. One needs to be precient to guess how others might want to use the land in order to choose safely. But better to try and choose wrong than not plant at all. I sometimes wonder if, in a hundred years, there will be any magnificent trees left.

  2. I am thrilled to see a mango tree, how bonny that one is! Does it have to be cut back?

The family photos are soooo happy and relaxed. Their restfulness is palpable. K must have experienced a whole host of emotions on this holiday. Lovely memories for both of you.

The bar is magnificent. You know Vincent, I am convinced its design is modelled on an early 20th century design of a bar. I have seen similar in parts of London. What strikes me, is how polished it all is. There is much pride in its presentation.

  3. Well, if you check the text, I do admit it is 3 mango trees. I'm sure they would be cut back if it were necessary. As it is, they shed leaves daily and a man sweeps them from the paved area and dredges from the pool. It's a very tidy hotel, founded and managed by a German lady who's now in her eighties (and whose partner of more than thirty years recently abandoned her for a very much younger woman).

All bars are shrines to the god Bacchus, I imagine. I imagine this one is dedicated to some Norse god of intoxication as well, considering the hotel's ownership.

And thanks for the other nice remarks!
