View from the Hill

I thought I might develop my “best”, i.e. most “serious” ideas into a book. But as I’m addicted to blogging, I’d continue to use this space as often as possible, cultivating a wry, self-deprecating manner: for the interaction, for the moral support, a boost to a flagging confidence.

The words for my writing, the best ones, come from walking out in all weathers, I’m not put off by cloudbursts and thunderstorms. Now I’m stuck indoors because my shoes & walking boots are still saturated.

I’ve been trying to finish this pesky picture. So much detail, it’s taken much longer than the 90 minutes I’d allotted and still I’m not satisfied. It’s a view of Desborough Castle, the name given to some Bronze-age ringwork overgrown with beech trees. I guess it’s been a wild place for children’s unsupervised adventures for the last thousand years or so. It’s the dark clump behind the domed Church of St Mary & St George.

  1. Vincent. hello again from canada……i noticed that some of your comments on my blog went unanswered. i`m not sure precisely why that happened. i get an e-mail when comments are posted generally and it wasn`t my intention to reject yours……
i am going through them as they are held in a folder awaiting moderation……so i`ll get to them soon.
    nice painting by the way.

  2. Doctor, Doctor, you have proved once again that the conspiracy theory is seldom correct, as cockups are perfectly adequate to yield to us this imperfect world. I thought you'd found my comments offensive! Thanks for remarks about the pastel, one of these days I'll learn how to do it better.

  3. Much enjoyed this post, but the comment

“as cockups are perfectly adequate to yield to us this imperfect world”

was worth twice the price of admission. While I do believe in both good and evil human acts (and actors) most of the time “cockups” are far more likely than conspiracy.
