Is there a grand scheme of things? Yes, this is something I do believe. As to what it is, I cannot directly say: only circumstantially, in reference to what we can see with our own eyes. As I said in my last, politics and public discourse are toxic these days. After hearing what passes as news, I feel like scrubbing with disinfectant, like someone who fell in a cesspit. I don’t think the world has worsened. It’s just that the online media provide a prize-fighting ring. Word and image take the place of bare knuckles, with no holds barred. It’s a masked ball of anonymity, where the usual restraints on behaviour are off. Anyone can play. “Direct democracy” becomes a possibility, turns out to be a horror. Yet all this is unreal.
We can see with our own eyes. Science presents us with the invisible, so does religion. Anything beyond our limited horizon, we must take on trust or be sceptical. While there’s strength in me, I shall go a-wayfaring daily, and see for myself.
